San Sebastian has a lot of places to visit. Whether you have never come as if it is not your first time there are places that you have to return. In Always Easy we want to recommend you to visit a special one, a magic place. From there you can see the most beautiful panoramic of the city. We talk about Igueldo Montain. First of all we have to know that Igueldo Montain, as we know it today, was inaugurated with the Funicular in 1912. The tower, visible from any point of the city, is a copy of the tower that hosted the lighthouse of Igueldo in the XVI century. In its inauguration the amusement park housed, apart from some attraction, a casino. However, it was closed in 1925 because the game was banned. In that decade there were already attractions that continue to function today as the Swiss mountain or the mysterious river. In the next years more attractions were added and even two cinemas that closed in the 60s. But, why is too special visit this place? First of all because it is one of the favorite places of the people of San Sebastian. Practically all of us keep good memories of visits with our parents when we were young. It is a place to which we all have affection. Apart from that, take the funicular up to the viewpoint, having a coffee in their restaurant while enjoying amazing views is something that is priceless. Many of the beautiful postcards of the city have this beautiful place as a photo. To arrive there you have different options: First one is take the funicular, inaugurated in 1912. You can take it in Funicular Square, behind the Tenis Club. The cost is around 3€ per adult and around 2€ for children. You can take the bus number 16 also from Gipuzkoa Square, in the city centre, or in La Concha beach, in front of Batalplan disco. The cost is 1.75€ per person. The last option is with car through the road that goes to Igueldo lighthouse. Once you arrive to the amusement park you have to pay 2.30€ per person.

CURIOSITIES THAT YOU HAVE TO KNOW ABOUT SAN SEBASTIAN     12:00h war siren   If you are having a walk around the city, eating a Pintxo or looking a store in the city centre and suddenly you listen a war siren don’t worry, there is nothing to worry about.   More than 100 years ago, there was a cannon in Plaza Gipuzkoa that fired a small contraption always at 12:00h. This happened because the sun was aligned with a magnifying glass that pointed directly at his wick.   In 1930, after the withdrawal of the cannon, the newspaper “el Pueblo Vasco” continued with the custom, but replacing the cannon shot by a siren. The newspaper closed in 1936, but the international watchmaking moved to the same headquarters and since then, they makes it sound every day. A siren that is heard from almost every point in the city. IBI = + P Everyday, in la Concha beach, appears this curius jeroglifc. Is a protest against the tax of the houses... It means IBI=more poverty. Every morning, a man from Donostia write this... the the sea deletes it.   Rockets of celebration… or not.   Other sound that you can listen, on weekends, are rockets. If you listen only one will be a bad new for the local people, but if you listen two they will be happy.   Following the tradition of the old Atotxa football stadium, in Anoeta, the new stadium of Real Sociedad (local team), rockets are launched when there is a goal.    Obviusly, when only one rocket is launched means that the team that is playing against the locals team score a gol, but if two rockets are launched mean that who score goal is Real Sociedad.     Roller Coaster? No! Swiss Roller Coaster!   Apart from the beautiful views of the city, the amusement park of Igueldo Montain has a peculiarity that not a lot of people know. It is one of the few amusement parks that the roller coaster is from Switzerland. The difference between both is easy. The roller coaster can be moved from one point to another, while the Swiss not. And the roller coaster of our lovely park was built on concrete, making it impossible to move to another site.   Cemetery in the mountain   Next to the Old Town we can find Urgul Montain, where you can go to see a beautiful view of San Sebastian. What not many know is that on the hillside there is a cemetery!   But is not a cemetery like other ones because is an english soldiers cementery. More specifically British soldiers belonging to the British Auxiliary Legion who came to fight in the Carlist Wars.   Butt, why are they buried in Urgul? The answer is easy. Is the northernmost point of San Sebastián, so that those buried there look towards England.   La Concha railing   Probably the most characteristic thing of the city is the railing that surrounds the beach of La Concha. But has a peculiarity because one of the pieces of the railing is upside down.   In this piece, the flower instead of facing the sea, is facing the street. At the moment nobody knows if was a human mistake or was made with all the intention.

A beautiful weekend where, without doubts, the main act will be, once again, the parade of the 26 troupes with more than 2.000 dancers through the streets of the city. But that does not mean there are not more things to do around the city. For example, the children can enjoy this year with two parties dedicated to them. First one on Saturday at 6:00pm in the Main Theater and second one on Sunday, at the same time, in the old fire station, located on Easo Street. On Saturday at night, Donostia Festak company will convert the Bretxa market in a big hawaiian party. They encourage everyone to go in disguise. There will be music and there will also be contests and gifts. Already on Sunday, at 6:00pm in the afternoon, the Town Hall organizes a costume party for people over 55 years of age in which, among other things, there will be music, chocolate or a photo booth. Fun guaranteed to enjoy Sunday afternoon. And focusing on the parade of troups, will be Saturday and Sunday from 17:00h. The 26 troups will leave and finish, as always, in the Boulevard Avenue. As a novelty this year will be awarded the prize for design carnivals. The troup that wins will take 4000 euros that can be used to buy fabrics and make costumes for the next year's parade. All weekend will be enlivened by txarangas and batucadas (street bands of music) throughout the city that will try to amuse the people of San Sebastian. As always, this big weekend will finish on Monday with the Burial of the Sardine, a traditional event which symbolizes the end of the carnival. This year will be at 7pm in Bilbao Square. From Always Easy we encourage you not to stay at home and go out to enjoy the Donostia carnival.
